The Art of Showing Up

Happy Father’s Day to My First Hero, My Forever Inspiration
When I think about what it means to show up, to be present, and to pour into others, my dad comes to mind. He didn’t just provide for us, he showed up for us. Every event, every award ceremony, every late-night project or early-morning practice, he was there. He was the kind of dad who believed in dreams, but even more in plans. From a young age, he taught us to set goals, write them down, and talk about them together. Our family meetings weren’t just about chores or check-ins; they were about legacy, vision, and accountability.
Though our career paths were different, he served in the Army and later became a contractor. His discipline, integrity, and commitment left a blueprint I still follow. Even now, two years into retirement, he continues to be a steady, loving presence. A provider. A Papa. A constant strong figure in our lives.
He became a father young, learning how to be a man while raising kids, and later, grandkids. By the time he was my age, he had five children and was already stepping into grandfatherhood. That’s wild to imagine. And yet, he wore, and still wears, that title with pride.
But what makes him so special, so unforgettable, is how he always shows up. If we called and needed something, he was already halfway out the door. We laugh about it now! How you could dial his number and see him on two wheels coming around the corner, ready to fix whatever was wrong or simply be there. He never made us feel like a burden. He made us feel like a priority.
He’s not perfect. But he’s real, and he’s consistent. Watching him age, move a little slower, and do a little less has been a humbling reminder that time changes things, but his presence, his love, and his impact remain unshaken.
Daddy, thank you for being my rock. For setting the standard. For loving deeply and leading boldly. For teaching us that showing up is an art and you, Daddy, have always been a master.
I honor you today and always.
Love you forever. 💙
Happy Father’s Day.
